Rootstrikers Use BizVizz App to Reveal Corporate Cash in Politics
Followers of the Rootstrikers movement, which is dedicated to getting money out of politics across the country, are taking action on Sunday, May 19, to expose corporate spending in politics. The plan is for activists to head to grocery stores, department stores and shopping malls and use the BizVizz mobile app to help get out the word that some of the most popular products sold in those stores are made by companies that pour millions of dollars into buying elected officials.
The Rootstrikers want people to know how the money they spend is used to influence policy in ways they might not approve of.
If you are interested in participating in your town, sign up at the Rootstrikers website and get a number of tools that will help you join the action:
- Info sheets to hand out outside of your local store, with talking points about how much money companies are spending in elections.
- Sign up sheets to help you recruit new Rootstrikers.
- Instructions to help you record video of yourself, your friends (and maybe new friends?!), using the app to interact with products in the store, to reveal how much popular companies have contributed.
Rootstrikers is an organization that was started as a project of Fix Congress First, the organization founded by professor Lawrence Lessig and political operative Joe Trippi.
