Vectors for Hope Fly-In Supports Flights for Health
If you are in Houston this Saturday and have an interest in vintage aircraft or just a desire to help people with serious illnesses get the treatment they need, a group of National Air Traffic Controllers Association ( NATCA ) members in the Houston area have devised a unique event you should check out.
Vectors for Hope —founded by the NATCA members—has organized it first-ever charity fly-in for Saturday, Sept. 28, at David Wayne Hooks Airport. All proceeds will benefit organizations that provide free air transportation to treatment facilities for patients with life-threatening illnesses—Angel Flight South Central, the Houston Ground Angels and Around the World for Life.
Delfina Jensen, a Houston Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) controller, says:
We really just want the community to have a good time while learning about aviation and helping us raise awareness for these honorable charities.
Some of the aircraft scheduled to fly in for the event are historic World War II planes, including the P-51 Mustang, F4U Corsair fighters and B-17 Flying Fortress and B-25 Mitchell bombers, some of which will offer rides.
Along with the aircraft, there will be helicopter, war bird and seaplane rides, as well as food, drinks, a large children’s activity area featuring a carnival and live presentations by air traffic control. In addition, Vectors for Hope will feature a raffle and a silent auction for items, including a ride in a P-51 Mustang; a hotel stay and dinner for two in Galveston, Texas; two round-trip tickets on Southwest Airlines; “Wings Over Houston” air show tickets; and many other prizes.
The fly-in is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CDT at Hooks Airport in Spring, Texas. The event is open to the public and admission and parking are free.
