UAW Helps Build Garden Beds for Detroit Students
Munger Elementary School in Detroit will have a new garden, thanks to Ford employees and members of UAWLocal 600. As part of this year's Ford Global Week of Caring, UAW Local 600 will help build raised garden beds for the grassroots community service coalition Bridging Communities, to support students at the school.
Ford Fund provided a $5,000 grant to purchase tools and materials for this joint UAW and Ford project. The UAW volunteers will build the beds for the urban garden, and students will plant and grow fresh produce for the surrounding neighborhood.
"We're pleased to be part of this project that will help support those who need it most," said UAW Vice President James Settles, who directs the union's National Ford Department.
The commitment of our UAW Ford volunteers is yet another indication of our members' unwavering dedication to community service.
