People @ Work: Prepping for 'A Capitol Fourth'

Joe Corbin and Susan Kelleher, married Theatrical Stage Employees stagehands from Local 22, talk about preparing for this year's "A Capitol Fourth" celebration on the West Lawn of the Capitol.

“You can’t get the job done if you don’t have a solid team, if you don’t have people you can trust working next to you,” says Kelleher.

IATSE members worked between thunderstorms to erect the stage and camera towers for the musical extravaganza that is broadcast each year on PBS. This year’s celebration is hosted by Tom Bergeron and features musical performances by Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond, Candice Glover, Scotty McCreery, the National Symphony Orchestra and many others.

“Working the Fourth of July show as a member of IATSE 22, it feels like you’re part of something bigger,” says Corbin. “I love coming to work every day and the people I work with.”
