Monroe Union/Community Partnership Helps Kids and Families at Easter Time

The kids got to romp through Munson Park in Monroe, Mich., hunting for Easter eggs—and families in need of food aid received a helping hand, too, thanks to a partnership of unions and community groups.

On Saturday, more than 700 children took part in the Fifth Annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Monroe/Lenawee County AFL-CIO Council and the United Way of Monroe County. Afterward, more than 400 families were helped at the Fourth Annual Mobile Food Pantry organized by the Monroe County Opportunity Program and Gleaners Community Food Bank of Southeast Michigan, along with the labor council and United Way.

Council President Bill Connor says that “during these difficult economic times,” the union/community partnership is an important resource for families and their children.

The seeds we are planting today will ensure a better future for all, for we are truly all one community.
