Green Bay Firefighters Cook Up Some Good Will at a Local Cafe
It's incredibly hard for restaurant owners to take the day off, especially around the holidays. But Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 141 made that possible for the owner of the Mill Town Café in Green Bay, Wis., who needed time off to receive a bone marrow transplant the Friday before Christmas.
The Green Bay firefighters staffed the kitchen, bused the tables and served customers at the cafe while raising money for the owner of the cafe, Bonnie Homan, to help with the cost of cancer treatment. Homan's family, who also work at the restaurant, were able to take the day off to care for her.
Chad Bronkhurst, a firefighter and member of IAFF Local 141, told the local news:
We've been happy, joking around just having a good time with the customers. It's been just a phenomenal event for us. And the meaning behind it has been good for everyone involved.
