Strike Three! New Hampshire House Calls Right to Work ‘Out!’

It was no charming third time for former New Hampshire House Speaker William O’Brien (R) as the state House of Representatives decisively defeated (212-141) a "right to work" for less bill sponsored by O’Brien who no longer holds the speaker’s post.  

New Hampshire AFL-CIO President Mark MacKenzie called today’s vote “a strong rebuttal of ex-Speaker O'Brien's attacks on the middle class.” O’Brien championed the anti-worker measure in the past two sessions only to see it die both times.

N.H. House Sustains Veto of So-Called Right to Work

After months of dirty-trick-maneuvering, New Hampshire House Speaker William O’Brien (R) got his comeuppance this morning when the House failed to override Gov. John Lynch’s (D) May veto of a so-called right to work bill. The 240 to 139 vote in the heavily Republican chamber failed to get the two-thirds necessary for an override.

N.H.’s O’Brien Still Planning ‘Right to Work’ Sneak Attack

New Hampshire House Speaker Bill O’Brien (R) couldn’t pull off a sneak attack or round up enough votes to override Gov. John Lynch’s (D) veto of a so-called right work bill this week, so he adjourned the House until June 22. But with no legal limit setting a veto override deadline, O’Brien can bring up the measure anytime this year, without notice.

Hundreds of New Hampshire small businesses are taking part in a 36-hour tweet-a-thon, telling the New Hampshire Legislature, especially House Speaker Bill O’Brien, to keep the Granite State open for business and stop playing political games with so-called right to work legislation.

Two N.H. GOP Lawmakers Resign Over House Speaker’s Anti-Worker Agenda

Two top-ranking Republican legislators in the New Hampshire House have resigned their leadership positions to protest House Speaker Bill O’Brien’s extreme anti-worker agenda and strong-arm tactics. The two are six-term state Rep. and House Deputy Majority Leader Matt Quandt and House Whip Tim Copeland.
