Bashing unions and working people seems to be the unifying theme of the 2012 Republican National Convention (RNC) held in Tampa, Fla., this week.

Josh Eidelson wrote for Salon that the RNC's choice of speakers and agenda is "a full-on embrace of the same anti-union agenda that helped earn Scott Walker and Nikki Haley their Tuesday night speaking slots."

The new platform reflects a Republican Party even more hostile to organized labor than the one that nominated John McCain four years ago.

The bankruptcies of California cities Stockton and San Bernardino weren’t caused by unions, Washington Post op-ed columnist Harold Meyerson points out in a new column, “Bankrupt Cities? Don’t Blame Unions.” Contrary to reporting on the subject, the bankruptcies of these two cities were caused by Big Banks “peddling subprime mortgages to poorly paid workers.”

Currently under fire for misogynist and sexist comments, in particular his attacks on Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke, Rush Limbaugh's broadcast career has also featured an ongoing campaign against unions and union members. Limbaugh regularly describes union members as "thugs" and questions the patriotism of their actions.

The candidates in the Republican race to the presidential nomination may still be criss-crossing the country slamming each other for not being extreme enough, but there is certainly one thing they all agree on writes John Nichols—they hate unions!
