Fairpoint Workers to Vote on Tentative Agreement

After a 17-week strike that began in October, unions representing workers at FairPoint Communications have reached a tentative agreement with the company to go back to work. Following six weeks of federally mediated negotiations, the two sides agreed on a deal that members of the Electrical Workers (IBEW) and Communications Workers of America (CWA) will vote on starting today. Member briefings will be held before the votes. If the deal is approved, workers will return to their jobs on Wednesday

We're Lovin' It: IBEW Members Renovate New York Ronald McDonald House

Just like workers are stronger together, so are families. Ronald McDonald Houses ensure children who receive treatment at a hospital far away from home can have their family close by without the burden of hotel expenses during a long hospital stay. 

A Ronald McDonald House in Albany, N.Y., was in need of repair, and Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 236 pitched in to renovate the facility.

IBEW Father and Daughter’s Long Journey to Sochi Short Track

UPDATE: Scott finished second in her 1,000-meter heat Tuesday morning in Sochi and qualified to advance to Fridays quarterfinals. On Saturday, Scott made it to the finals in the 1,500 meters, when another skater crashed and wiped out Scott who was able to get back in the race, but finished in fifth place. She failed to qualify for the 500 meters last week.

Springfield, Mo., Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 453 member Craig Scott is in Sochi, Russia, this week watching his daughter Emily compete for Olympic gold in several short track speed skating events.  But it wasn’t an easy journey for father or daughter.

Emergency medical workers, massage therapists, bus mechanics and home health care workers are among the latest workers to choose a voice on the job with AFL-CIO unions. 

In California and Arizona, some 240 emergency medical services professionals voted recently to join United EMS Workers-AFSCME.
