11th Moral Monday Focuses on Women’s Issues

Today’s Moral Monday action in Raleigh, N.C., will focus on women’s issues. It is the 11th Moral Monday event to protest the extreme actions of the legislature and Gov. Pat McCrory (R). Says the Rev. William Barber II, president of the North Carolina NAACP:

Women are speaking out on unemployment, poverty, Medicaid, voting rights, women's rights and education from a moral and constitutional perspective.

Tribune Announces Spin-Off of Newspaper Business; No Immediate Sale to the Koch Brothers

The Tribune Company has announced it will split in two, separating its newspaper business from its broadcasting unit, as it focuses more on its television operations in an attempt to become more profitable. The announced spin-off is at least a temporary setback to Charles and David Koch, the conservative billionaire brothers who had expressed interest in acquiring the newspapers.

‘Freedom’s’ Just Another Word for Something Big to Lose

This week a coalition of extremist groups and right-wing think tanks such as the Koch brothers-founded Americans for Prosperity, the Heritage Foundation and the State Policy Network is urging and assisting workers to leave their unions under a new-speak banner proclaiming “National Employee Freedom Week.”

Voters Reject Extremist in New Hampshire Special Election

AFL-CIO National Field Communications Director Jennifer Kauffman reports on some good news out of the states.

Last night, Democrat Jennifer Daler won a special election, 58 percent to 42 precent, in New Hampshire’s House District 4—the 14th most Republican district in the Granite State.
