Bottom Line: Green Bay Diaper Drive Big Success

Hundreds of babies and toddlers from low-income families in the Green Bay, Wis., area will be happier and drier in the coming months, thanks to the 13,000 diapers collected by Brown County United Way, in partnership with the Greater Green Bay Labor Council Community Services Committee and 21 community partners. Dan Wadle, the AFL-CIO Community Services liaison, says:

It’s a case where there’s a lot of need in the community as far as with low-income families. It’s difficult to afford diapers.

Illinois Shooting Contest Raises $50,000 for Conservation

Illinois union members raised more than $50,000 to support the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance’s (USA's) conservation mission with their First Annual Illinois Sporting Clays Shoot last weekend at the Max McGraw Wildlife Foundation in Dundee, Ill. The shooting competition was sponsored by the Illinois AFL-CIO, Chicago Federation of Labor (CFL) and the Chicago and Cook County Building and Construction Trades Council (CBTC).

Detroit Union Members Rally to Bring Jobs Home

Union members from around the Detroit metro area rallied Tuesday in support of the Bring Jobs Home Act (S. 2884), a common sense bill authored by Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.)  that would incentivize American companies to bring jobs back to America from overseas. The bill would also close tax loopholes that reward corporations that continue to outsource in the pursuit of outsized corporate profits. Stabenow told the crowd:

The time is now for my Republican colleagues to stop stonewalling this common sense legislation and do what’s right for the American people.

Fired Up Young Workers Organize Our Future in Boston

Some 85 union members, community activists and students age 35 and younger took part in the 2nd Annual “Organizing Our Future” conference hosted by the Greater Boston Labor Council Futures Committee at the Boston Teachers Union Hall.  The goal of the conference on Sunday was to empower, educate and connect young union members around Boston to be more knowledgeable and active in their local unions, in their communities and the Greater Boston Labor Council Futures Committee.
