Union Plus Offers Help for Survivors of Colorado Floods

If you are a union member who participates in Union Plus programs and have been affected by the deadly floods that struck Colorado, you may be eligible for financial assistance.

Union Plus Disaster Relief Grants of $500 are available to help participants in the Union Plus Credit Card, Insurance or Mortgage programs who are facing financial hardship due to the latest natural disaster. The money does not have to be repaid.

If you are not involved in the Union Plus program, the Denver Post has a list of other resources for Coloradans and ways you can assist those affected by the floods.

Union Plus Photo Contest Wants to Show U@Work

The hard work of union members created Labor Day, and we think it’s about time union members @Work took full credit. We need more Americans to grasp the impact of your skilled labor. Not only because you build everything from our roads, our cars and the places we go, but U@Work are the living infrastructure that makes America happen.  

If pictures say a thousand words, we would like at least 10,000 of them this Labor Day to show the union difference. From Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, submit your photo to www.UnionPlus.org/Contest for a chance to win BIG and show what U@Work really means.

Unions and Education: Keys to the American Dream

For centuries, people move to make a better life for themselves and their families. This is illustrated in the experience of immigrants who uproot their lives and move to the United States to achieve the American Dream. 

Recipients of Union Plus scholarships this year have expressed how union benefits offer their families greater security, more dignity and respect in the workplace, better wages and more protection for workers, including rules that prohibit discrimination on the basis of national origin.

New AFL-CIO/Union Plus Jobs and Freedom Scholarships Honor 50th Anniversary of March on Washington

Aug. 28 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. To commemorate the historic 1963 march, the AFL-CIO, in partnership with Union Plus, announced today a new Dreams of Jobs and Freedom Scholarship program.    

The scholarships will provide $5,000 each to at least 50 talented high school seniors—including those from union families—to help pay for the costs of higher education.
