Fair Elections Ohio has turned in more than 318,000 signatures to put the state’s new voter suppression law, HB 194, on the ballot for a citizens’ veto–a move that puts the law’s provisions on hold for the 2011 and 2012 election cycles. The signatures collected far exceed the 231,000 required to get the measure on the ballot, according to Leadership Conference on Civil Rights President Wade Henderson.

Voters in New Hampshire won’t be disenfranchised by what would have been one of the most regressive voter photo ID laws in in the nation after the state Senate today failed to override Gov. John Lynch’s (D) veto of the bill. In the state Senate, where Republicans hold a 19-5 majority, the vote to override was 7-17.

More evidence that Republicans are determined to grab as much power as they can at the expense of everyone but the rich. Not satisfied with attacking the rights of workers, Republicans in 36 states are going after the most sacred American right—the right to vote.
The We Party
reports that through a myriad of proposals, they are trying to suppress the votes of traditionally Democratic voters, including minorities, the poor, people who live in rural areas, seniors and students.

The Wisconsin state Senate today in a straight party-line vote passed a so-called “
Voter-ID
” bill that could disenfranchise tens of thousands of students, seniors, poor and minority voters. The State Assembly approved the bill last week, and Gov. Scott Walker (R) says he will sign it next week.
