I began my career as a newspaper reporter in Southwest Florida, and since have written, edited and managed production of advocacy materials— including newsletters, books, brochures, booklets, fliers, calendars, websites, posters and direct response mail and e-mail—to support economic and social justice campaigns. Look what just came to light! Here’s a video clip of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who’s now teamed up with statehouse Republicans to ram into law a “right to work” for less bill, telling a Teamsters Local 135 stewards dinner back in 2006 that he opposes “right to work.”
Keep your eye on the Indiana statehouse today, where Republican House members are doubling down on their push to pass a “right to work” for less law. House Democrats offered a range of amendments to the bill, including a move to put the anti-worker legislation on the ballot for a public referendum—an idea 71 percent of Hoosiers support.
Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels’ administration will limit the number of people who can assemble in the statehouse beginning Jan. 1—a move that Indiana AFL-CIO President Nancy Guyott says creates a “policy to shut out the voices of dissent and limit access to government to only those they favor.”

The 800 young workers, activists and students at the AFL-CIO Next Up Young Worker Summit in Minneapolis announced their strong support of the Occupy Wall Street protesters:

Fair Elections Ohio has turned in more than 318,000 signatures to put the state’s new voter suppression law, HB 194, on the ballot for a citizens’ veto–a move that puts the law’s provisions on hold for the 2011 and 2012 election cycles. The signatures collected far exceed the 231,000 required to get the measure on the ballot, according to Leadership Conference on Civil Rights President Wade Henderson.
TPM reports that a preliminary Justice Department investigation finds that the redistricting plan approved by presidential candidate and Texas governor Rick Perry (R) appears to have been “adopted, at least in part, for the purpose of diminishing the ability of [minorities] to elect their preferred candidates of choice to Congress.”
Maybe this is Hallmark’s answer to threats to cut more than 200,000 U.S. Postal Service jobs, end Saturday delivery and shut down post offices. The greeting card company now offers condolence cards for people who have lost their jobs.
The 45,000 striking Verizon workers, represented by the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the Electrical Workers (IBEW), will return to work Tuesday under the existing contract as bargaining resumes.
