Members of National Nurses United (NNU)  and other working men and women will march and rally on Wall Street today to demand that the high rollers in the finance capital of the world pay to rebuild the economy they destroyed.

Riding in an ambulance in the nation’s capital may be hazardous to your health–and fire responders and nurses are demanding a change.  Unions representing the District of Columbia’s emergency medical technicians, paramedics, fire fighters and registered nurses today urged Mayor Vincent Gray to ensure that the city’s ambulances are in working order and have operational air conditioners.

Carrying signs saying “Heal America! Tax Wall Street!” more than 1,000 nurses, union members and community allies today called on President Obama, the Chamber of Commerce and Congress set a new course to heal the nation.

More than 1,000 nurses will be joined by union and community allies in a rally outside the White House, Chamber of Commerce and Congress tomorrow to call for a new agenda to heal the nation.

The 1,300 registered nurse at the University of Chicago Medical Center who last year voted to join National Nurses United (NNU), this week overwhelmingly ratified their first contract with the University.

More than five years ago the 500 registered nurses at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, Calif., began a drive to improve patient care and win fair treatment from hospital management by gaining a voice with the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU).

More than 11,000 registered nurses at five University of California (UC) hospitals are voting this week on a tentative 26-month contract that, if approved, would provide for significant improvements for patients and nurses. The nurses, members of  the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United (CNA/NNU), began voting yesterday on the pact at  UC hospitals at Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, Davis (Sacramento) and Irvine, as well as student health centers at other UC campuses. The voting continues through Thursday.

Last year, when Congress passed the Affordable Care Act, it was a “historic milestone on our path toward a more just society,” says AFL-CIO Executive Vice President Arlene Holt Baker, “But we also know that much work is left to be done.”

After nearly a year without a contract and a temporary lockout two months ago, the 1,650 registered nurses at Washington Hospital Center ratified a contract in voting over the weekend.
