NASA Firefighters Picket at the Kennedy Space Center

The rain couldn’t stop TWU Local 525 members as they kicked off informational picketing last week about their fight for a fair contract with G4S GS at the Kennedy Space Center in Brevard County, Fla.

More than 2,000 Workers Join AFL-CIO Unions

College professors, cable television installers and employees at donut shops, a hotel and in telecommunications are the latest workers to join AFL-CIO unions.

Nearly 400 AT&T Mobility retail store workers in Mississippi and Wyoming have chosen Communications Workers of America (CWA) representation. AT&T which has agreed to management neutrality, recognized the workers’ choice of CWA when majorities signed union authorization cards. The Mississippi unit includes 314 workers.

TWU Demands Respect from American Airlines' Bankruptcy Court

Workers took to the street yesterday as American Airlines’ bankruptcy hearings began in New York City. Members of the Transport Workers (TWU), which represents American Airlines’ mechanics and fleet service employees, rallied with other union and community activists to demand that the court protect American jobs and collective bargaining rights and respect the value of work during the bankruptcy proceedings. American Backs off Plan to Dump Pensions

In February, American Airlines announced plans to eliminate the jobs of 13,000 workers and dump pension plans for nearly 90,000 workers into the federal government’s Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. (PBGC) as part of its bankruptcy plan. Roughly 9,000 Transport Workers (TWU) members are employed at American. But yesterday, following negotiations with the TWU and PBGC, American announced it was abandoning its pension proposal.
