UAW Head Says Romney’s Jeep Claim Is a Wreck

UAW Head Calls Foul on Romney's Jeep Claims

UAW President Bob King has blasted presidential candidate Mitt Romney's false claim that Jeep is "thinking of moving all production to China," in a USA Today op-ed.

Romney's "meandering statements and plain falsehoods about the auto industry finally caught up to him earlier this week when he told a big whopper that cannot be squared with the truth," King said. "And, rather than take the opportunity to exhibit honesty and presidential character by correcting his misstatement, Romney doubled down with a misleading campaign spot about Jeep running in Ohio."

Richard Trumka: Game Changer in Ohio: Cars

Richard Trumka: Game Changer in Ohio: Cars

This is an excerpt from the Huffington Post, "Game Changer in Ohio: Cars," by AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka.

This election may come down to cars. That’s right, cars.

Nothing illustrates the choice between the two presidential candidates better than the 2009 rescue of the auto industry.  And, despite Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s efforts to distort the contrast with patently dishonest claims and a new TV ad, the auto rescue may turn out to be the deciding factor in the presidential election.

Romney can’t seem to Etch-a-Sketch that now-famous op-ed headline—“Let Detroit Go Bankrupt.”

Romney: Vouchers for Disaster Relief?

Romney: Vouchers for Disaster Relief?

With more than a dozen states still reeling from the massive impact of Hurricane Sandy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is coordinating the complex rescue, recovery and repair response. But last year, Mitt Romney said disaster and emergency management should be left up to the states and private corporations.

AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka Calls Out Romney's Hypocrisy on Coal

If there is a “war on coal,” as Mitt Romney and his corporate coal operator backers have trumpeted throughout coal country, especially in the vital swing state of Ohio, the man behind that war is Mitt Romney himself, AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said in a telephone press conference Monday.

Today, Romney says he will be a “coal” president. But he is actually anti-coal. It wasn’t too long ago that he stood in front of a coal-fired power plant in Massachusetts and said, “Coal kills people. Shut this down.” Now, he goes into the field and says there is a war on coal….Mitt Romney is a political chameleon who will say anything he thinks people want to hear.

Open Letter to Building Trades About Mitt Romney’s Record as Governor of Massachusetts

Frank Callahan, president of the Massachusetts Building Trades Council, sends us this open letter.

I am sure that many of you share my frustration at trying to sift through campaign commercials and talking points to find out where the candidates for president really stand on issues that are important to you. Part of the problem is Mitt Romney’s habit of changing his positions to suit his audience.

One thing he can’t change is his record. I had a front-row seat for Mitt Romney’s term as governor of Massachusetts. His positions and his actions on the issues that have a direct impact on building and construction trades workers were not good for our members.

Sensata Tells Workers End Protests or Ax Falls Sooner

The workers at Sensata Technologies, who’ve established the tent city “Bainport” across the street from the Bain Capital majority-owned plant that is shutting down and shipping the 170 U.S. jobs to China, filed unfair labor practice charges Wednesday against Sensata.

The workers charge that the company has threatened to shut down the plant before its end-of-the-year scheduled closure if the workers continue to organize to stop the outsourcing of their jobs to China.

Working America’s Actions Part of Swing States Ground Game Series

Working America’s Actions Part of Swing States Ground Game Series

A recurring theme in the media’s horse race coverage of the presidential election is a so-called diminished enthusiasm among voters who backed President Obama in 2008 and a corresponding burst of excitement on the right for Mitt Romney.

Don’t tell that to Working America’s Peter Drummond, who along with hundreds of other Working America members in Wisconsin, is talking to working family voters every night. He tells the American Prospect:

Obama Builds Modern Navy, Romney Stuck in 1916

This is one of the Virginia class nuclear submarines being built at Newport News Shipyards. Newport News Shipyard photo.

In Monday night’s presidential debate, when Mitt Romney boldly proclaimed that the U.S. Navy has fewer ships today than it did in 1916, President Obama reminded him that the Navy’s 21st century mission is far different and the fleet’s capabilities are far greater.

But with the election in two weeks, Republicans twisted President Obama’s barbed response to Romney as a grievous insult to the Navy and a threat to the men and women who are continuing to build the world’s most modern naval warfare force ever.

Richard Trumka: This November, You Make the Difference

Richard Trumka: This November, You Make the Difference
