Video: Nevada State AFL-CIO Urges Sen. Heller to 'Bring Jobs Home'

Nevada has the highest unemployment rate at 12 percent and the highest foreclosure rate in the state. Workers in the building trades industry are experiencing 60 percent to 90 percent unemployment. 

This is why Danny Thompson, Nevada State AFL-CIO executive secretary-treasurer, and local unions gathered outside the office of Sen. Dean Heller (R-Nev.) last week to ask him to support the Bring Jobs Home Act (S. 3364 [formerly S. 2884]), which is expected to get a vote on Thursday. Watch the YouTube video here

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is using Horizontal Wireline Services, a small business outside Pittsburgh, as a prop for today’s campaign stumping.

But there are a couple other companies Romney likely will never get near: American Pad & Paper, 25 miles south of his speech today, and Sensata Technologies, over in Freeport, Ill.

The huge export of American jobs (some 6 million manufacturing jobs in the past decade) by U.S. corporations has become a focal point of the presidential campaign. Today, a new report from the Center for American Progress (CAP) outlines how Republican Mitt Romney’s proposals would:

encourage and further accelerate the outsourcing of American jobs to foreign countries.

Whirlpool Corp. closed its Fort Smith Arkansas refrigerator factory on June 29 laying off  826 hourly workers and eight salaried employees. Americans say, "Bring Jobs Home"

Local unions, community leaders and working families rallied in Canton, Ohio, Monday at a Bring Jobs Home event after an announcement that TTI Floor Care vacuum bag plant will close all local production of Hoover vacuum bags. The rally addressed different ways elected officials can create good jobs and rebuild local communities hit hard by the recession. The United Steelworkers (USW), Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 1985) and the Hall of Fame Central Labor Council took part.
