Flight Attendants Join Fight for Fairness at Hyatt

On Tuesday, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA-CWA) joined with hotel workers for a rally demanding that Hyatt Hotels change a host of practices that the Hyatt Hurts campaign touts as the worst in the United States. More than 100 members of AFA-CWA rallied at Hyatt's headquarters in Chicago, picketing the building and delivering a letter to Hyatt endorsing the boycott.

Georgia Working Families Rally to Support Immigration Reform

Georgia's working families, including the Georgia AFL-CIO and the Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council, joined several lawmakers at the state Capitol today to present a resolution that supports a pathway to citizenship for 11 million aspiring Americans.

National Federation of Nurses Affiliates with AFT

The National Federation of Nurses (NFN) will affiliate with AFT, the leaders of the two unions announced today. Some 34,000 registered nurses in Montana, Ohio, Oregon and Washington State are NFN members.

Firefighters Training in Action

On the evening of May 1, 2010, firefighters from Uniformed Fire Officers Association Local 854 in New York City got a call about a car fire in Times Square. Six minutes later, Lts. Mike Barvels and John Kazan arrived on the scene to find an SUV parked with one wheel on a curb, hazard lights blinking. The firefighters spotted a number of warning signs, most importantly the white, slow-moving smoke coming from the vehicle. They knew typical car fires involve dark, billowing smoke. Barvels and Kazan decided not to use their fire hose on the truck and instead called for experts to come investigate.

Today marks a sad anniversary for worker safety. Two years ago today, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) submitted the silica dust standard to the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Women, men and children across the world are taking collective action this Valentine's Day to speak up and demand an end to violence against women. Union leaders and workers in the United States have joined this massive global coalition. Flash mobs (a dance in a public place coordinated by a group of people) are being held in cities from San Francisco to Delhi, India; Manila, Philippines; Khartoum, Sudan; and many more.
