This conference will provide an opportunity for union members, union officers, constituency groups, state federations, area and central labor council leaders, as well as our community partners, to come together to review the progress we have made and the challenges that remain.
At past AFL-CIO conventions, delegates have endorsed ambitious measures to promote and build diversity within the labor movement. Two resolutions from the past two conventions—Resolution 2 in 2005 and Resolution 7 in 2009—were far-reaching resolutions calling for action in all parts of the labor movement to build diversity. We must make diversity at all levels of the labor movement an even higher priority because a diverse labor movement is essential to connecting with and representing the workforce of the future.
